June 1, 2024

Write On, Door County   4210 Juddville Road, Fish Creek

Local Authors Discuss – is an ongoing series sponsored by DCPAC and hosted by Write On, featuring local authors discussing their writing. The first event features four local authors who will discuss the genres of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror through their own works. Admission to the event is free and the public is encouraged to ask questions of the authors.  The writers participating include:

Tom Davis. Tom’s topics include: fantasy as literature, achieving, through metaphor, language, and story, significance and power that can alter a reader’s perceptions of the world and how fantasy can blend into historically based content in a novel, increasing the power of the historical content.
Patrick Baird. Patrick is the author of two military science fiction novels: The Nowhere Navy and its sequel, The Epsilon Passage. He has also written four books in The Beatnik Spy series. Patrick will discuss the unique nature of the science fiction genre.
Scott Burtness. Scott’s topic will include unexpected humor as a subgenre of horror.
Ann Linquist. Ann will discuss: the idea of magic, world building in fantasy, how to rise above fantasy cliches and be creative, and why people read and how fantasy can satisfy that need.
